Human-AI interaction from an economics perspective
Researchers from different disciplines (economics, computer science, etc.) have long been interested in the interactions between humans and machines. With the rapid advancement of machine intelligence, tasks traditionally performed by humans are increasingly being automated or supported by technology. The increased interaction that is expected between humans and machines in different settings (firms, educational institutions, marketplaces, hospitals, etc.) raises a wide range of questions. These span economic, emotional, behavioral, technical, and ethical considerations. Hence, an interdisciplinary approach is required to explore the answers to these questions, and to design policies aimed at mitigating any unintended consequences that the promising technological breakthroughs of Artificial Intelligence (AI) might produce.
At the LEE Workshop on Human-AI interaction from an economics perspective, we want to address the economic consequences of the increased interactions between humans and Artificial Intelligence in different domains. We also seek to examine how these AI-driven interactions may differ from traditional human-to-human exchanges in terms of behavior and outcomes. Contributions should include policy recommendations about how to prevent biases and potentially harmful effects, and guidance to AI developers on how to improve design to mitigate such risks.
A non exhaustive list of topics falling within the scope of the workshop are:
- Differences in human behavior when interacting with AI systems.
- Economic impacts of the use of AI.
- Bias in decisions-making processes involving AI.
- Ethical challenges related to AI integration in economic decisions.
- Workplace automation.
- AI’s influence on educational investments and outcomes.
- AI’s role in information dissemination and updating.
The workshop will take place in Benicasim (Spain), in a relaxed environment over a day and a half. We will have plenary sessions of sets of 30 minute communications, and two one-hour Keynote addresses.
